Work to set up underground power supply line starts in Sylhet

SYLHET, Feb 04: Work on a project to set up underground power supply line in the city has started recently. With a proposal from Sylhet City Corporation (SCC), Power Development Board (PDB) has been implementing the scheme for replacing the seven-km long existing supply system in the city's busy areas.

Initially the much desired work was being done on two important and busy roads in the city. Such initiatives would be extended on other roads in the future, sources said.

An official informed, under the project, the existing supply line from the power sub-station in the city's Ambarkhana area to Chouhatta inter section would be replaced through underground arrangement.

From there, one section would be set through Zindabazar up to the Circuit House while the other would be taken up to MAG Osmani Medical College via Rikabi bazaar.

The Tk 550 million project would be the completed soon and help reducing minor accidents and other troubles, caused by the existing overhead lines, the official said.

The SCC Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury said it would be the beginning of a long-desired programme for replacing the overhead power lines in city.

Hopefully the project would be extended in future on the other areas for bringing a major change in the city's electric supply system to avert many troubles, he said.

Especially during the monsoon, often the supply lines get disrupted. Besides, during storms the system has to be kept snapped often apprehending accidents.
