Young man killed in Kushtia over dispute linked to VGF cards

KUSHTIA, July 03 (UNB): A young man was stabbed to death on Wednesday night in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia district, following a dispute over the government's VGF (Vulnerable Group Feeding) welfare cards.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Aziz, 30, son of Khilafat Ali from Dargatala area of Mathurapur.
Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Nazmul Huda said a man was killed over a feud over welfare card distribution.
"The situation is now under control and the body has been sent to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for autopsy," he added.
According to locals, there had been a long-standing dispute between two groups in Mathurapur area over VGF card applications and local dominance.
On Wednesday night, Aziz was standing near Mathurapur bus stand market area when members of the rival group, armed with weapons, launched a sudden attack on him.
Witnesses said Aziz sustained critical injuries after being stabbed, with his internal organs exposed.
Locals took him to Kushtia General Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
"A drive is underway to arrest those involved in the incident," the OC added.
