A strong democracy offers scope for discussion

October 07, 2018 00:00:00

The ruling party should consider holding talks with the main opposition so that a fair and participatory election can take place. The common people and the foreign development partners here want to see a peaceful power transfer through a fair and free election.

The ruling party leaders claim that they have worked for the betterment of the country and none can deny this fact. So, why they are hesitant to sit with the opposition in the interest of holding a fair election is the million dollar question.

Lack of democracy may cause harm to the economy; foreign and local investment is already shy. This also means that less employment is being generated. As a democratic society, Bangladesh has reached a critical juncture. It needs to be steered in the right direction.

We need to change in order to change the country's global image.
