Alarming rise of divorce -

The number of divorces is on the rise in Dhaka city. According to a recent news report, the number of notices for break-up rose to 7,245 in 2021 in Dhaka South City Corporation area, more than 14 per cent increase compared with 2020. This is quite alarming and it should be addressed. The major reasons cited for seeking split include poverty, physical and mental torture, drug addiction, dowry, maladjustment, extramarital affairs, Covid-induced stress and social media use.

Divorce is not just the end of a relationship but also affects the couple, their children, their families and society, too. Children become the worst victims of their parents' separation. Parents' divorce can leave children to feelings of loss, anger, stress, confusion and anxiety, among others.
