Awareness of diabetes

November 20, 2021 00:00:00

It is true that coronavirus is still spreading, and causing deaths all over the world. But, it is important that we do not forget about other diseases that have been plaguing us for a long time. Diabetes is one of them. Bangladesh is witnessing a surge in cases of diabetes. An exact number of people suffering from the disease are hard to come by but according to the International Diabetic Federation, there are around 10 million diabetic patients in the country. However, around half of the diabetic patients in the country show no symptoms before clinical diagnosis. Although it is a preventable disease, the number of cases will continue to rise unless people are more educated about it.

Worryingly, around 30 per cent of diabetic patients in the country reportedly suffer from uncontrolled blood sugar levels as they were not adequately aware before being diagnosed. It can prove to be fatal in the long run as patients tend to suffer from cardiovascular diseases or chronic renal failure later on in life. So, we must be aware of this disease, and engage ourselves with as much physical activities as possible.
