Business leadership style

November 10, 2017 00:00:00

THE fast pace and complexity of today's world means that leaders need to be more purpose-driven, supportive and flexible than ever before. Trends are constantly shifting and shaping companies' goals. New channel for reaching and interacting with consumers are being developed everyday. In this age of expansion, change is the new constant.

For entrepreneurs to stay on top, they must create and maintain a leadership style that adapts to these unpredictable times. Every company needs a vision -- a distinct purpose that runs through all aspects of its business. A purpose-driven company will also attract and retain the best talents. Companies with distinct and recognizable visions stand out as members are engaged in and passionate about their work. No one in a company fully understands the intensity and volume of daily stress that an entrepreneur has to go through. Whether it be landing on a new client or hitting a financial metric. The leader is reminded every day of the team of people relying on his/her success. His/her ability to lead well depend on managing and controlling the anxieties of the team.

Given the room for mistakes and the responsibility of fixing them when they happen, micromanaging hinders employee growth. Too often, employees rely on higher management to clean up the mess if and when something goes wrong. That results in the team feeling marginalised. This approach can be very damaging for employee confidence, and in the long run will keep the staff away from developing important risk-taking skills. An ideal leader will not restrict empowerment of the office and push the staff to get involved in learning opportunities and life experiences.

After all, the best rounded individuals make the strongest employees. A leader will encourage the staff to go out into the world, engage in experimental learning and bring the new-found knowledge back into the workplace. That is what we do at Ready set Rocket and it has done wonders for employees' growth within the company. Smart leaders empower their employees to make tough decisions, engage in controversial thinking and seek outside learning opportunities. Leadership is not to be taken lightly. Everyone needs to find the leadership style that works best for them and their subordinates. What works for the superiors may not work for them. However if they take some time and analyze different leadership styles and how they work for different personality types, they stand a much better chance of success.

Leadership is not something to be stepped into lightly and it does not come naturally as is the case with many new managers or business owners. It is important to spend sometime to determine which method of leadership will work best. If we know the culture of our particular business well, this may be easier, as we need to adjust to the needs of our employees. However, before moving into a new industry or an established corporation, making the right leadership decisions can be hard to come by as we are unaware of the current practices there.
