Cape Town water crisis: Lesson to be learnt

March 07, 2018 00:00:00

I was watching a documentary on TV the other day about looming water crisis in Cape Town, South Africa. There was a drought in the city in 2015 which resulted in a severe water crisis. Despite several water-saving measures, water levels at dams declined and the authority planned to enforce a "Day Zero" when the city water supply would be shut off. Day Zero would start from June 4, 2018, when water supply to most parts of the city would be suspended. The residents will line up at 200 water distribution points across the city and will receive 25 liters per person per day.

In our country we also face similar water crisis particularly in summer and the above instance at Cape Town should work as an eye opener for us. We must be cautious and thrifty in water consumption.
