Choice for pets over people

Many young people in Bangladesh are turning to pets for companionship, a trend influenced by social changes and mental health needs. As cities grow and life becomes busier, young individuals often find themselves living alone or with smaller families, which can lead to a feeling of isolation. Without the close-knit support of larger families or communities, they may seek the company of pets to fill this gap and in this venture they are unlikely to be disappointed, because, animals are faithful to their masters up to the last. I would be happy if I could say this about the so-called most rational species.
Mental health is another significant factor. Many young people today face stress, anxiety, and even trust issues. Human relationships can sometimes be complicated and judgmental, leaving young individuals feeling misunderstood or hesitant to open up fully. Pets, however, are non-judgmental, offering love and ready response without the complexity or expectations that come with human relationships. This simple companionship can be very comforting for those dealing with trust issues. Over time, some young people may even prefer this bond, as it feels safer and easier than navigating complex social situations, which can gradually create distance from broader social interactions.
However, this trend also has negative societal effects. Pets are increasingly being seen as replacements for close human relationships, with some young people viewing their pets as "best friends" instead of forming similar bonds with people. This shift can reduce human social interactions and further deepen reliance on pets for companionship, which may hinder the development of meaningful human friendships. In this way, while pets provide comfort and emotional stability, they are gradually taking over roles traditionally held by human friends, potentially contributing to a decrease in human connection within society over time.
