Compulsory technical education for youngsters

July 22, 2019 00:00:00

Some newspapers have reported that the government of Bangladesh is going to make technical education compulsory for all schools and madrashas from 2021. Students of class six to eight will get preliminary level technical education. Later, students of class nine and ten would have to take one compulsory technical course.

This is obviously a very timely decision by the government. Bangladesh has a huge population. There is dearth of employment and at the same time there is lack of skilled human resources. The more skilled our youths will be technically, the easier it will be for them to get jobs.

The workers we are sending abroad are not skilled enough. As a result, they earn less money than their counterparts from other countries who are better skilled. These workers from Bangladesh can lead better lives by earning more and sending more remittances from abroad if they are technically-skilled in their professions.

We expect proper implementation of the government's decision. Research and extensive preparation for technical education of the youngsters will help the country on its path to progress.
