Death of Nazim

May 21, 2018 00:00:00

BEFORE the nation could recover from the shock of Rajib and others' tragic death, another death news saddened us beyond measure. Nazim Uddin, a senior advertisement executive of the Dhaka Tribune, was killed on Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover at Jatrabari area in Dhaka.

He was another victim of a mad race between two reckless passenger buses. He was wearing a helmet but that could not protect him as he was knocked down by one bus and then run over by another. It was really heart rending that only two days ago, his wife had given birth to a baby girl and the mother and the new born baby were yet to be released from the hospital. The reckless driver of the bus that killed him was apathetic towards the victim and showed very little sympathy for him and he was arrested by the on duty traffic police with the help of another motor biker.

Nazim Uddin was the general secretary of Dhaka based Lalmohan Foundation, a social welfare organisation and was a man of amiable disposition. His death is a profound loss to his family as he was the sole earning member and at the same time a bad loss to the community.

A few days ago, members of the law enforcing agencies and bus owners and drivers associations met at Mahanagar Nattyamancha to share views on ways to cut down the number of accidents on our roads and highways. Both sides agreed that strict enforcement of existing laws is essential. We therefore humbly request the authorities concerned to strictly enforce traffic laws to ensure discipline in the transport sector particularly in road transport.
