Diabetes: Rising health concern
March 09, 2018 00:00:00
THE number of diabetic patients is rising and the number now stands approximately at 7 million in our country. Unless widespread awareness is created among people it is going to hurt us more severely.
There are around 400 million people across the world with diabetes. It is a disease in which blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels are too high. Common symptoms are: Hunger and fatigue; urinating more often and being thirstier; dry mouth and itchy skin and blurred vision.
Insulin is a hormone that helps glucose to get into our cells for energising them. If it is not controlled, it will lead to severe damages to our body. For example, the risk of having cardiovascular disease is high for a diabetic patient.
Diabetes requires regular care and if a diabetic complication develops, it can have a significant impact on our quality of life and bring further health complications.
Obesity is one of the major causes for diabetes and we need to live a healthy life style to prevent any possibility of diabetes. At the same time, people must be made aware of the consequences of diabetes.
When some one is affected with diabetes he or she should live a disciplined life and only a regulated life can help us keep away from the disease and help patients live a good and healthy life.
