Donate blood and help lives

Donate blood and help lives | March 05, 2018 00:00:00

IT is sad to see that there are still some wrong perceptions in our society about blood donation. Many of us think we do not have adequate blood to donate to others and therefore it would be unwise to donate blood. But the fact is when we go for blood donation the physicians will make sure that we are physically fit to do so. Only 30 per cent of blood comes from voluntary donors and 50 per cent from one-time donors. The rest 20 per cent come from professional donors which is not safe. When we donate blood it not only helps the receiver but also the donor. Donating blood will not adversely affect a healthy adult because our body has plenty of it and as it constantly produces new blood, it will replace the donated volume within 24 hours. Most people continue their usual activities after donating blood. In spite of being a regular donor I never faced any health problem after donating blood.

On the contrary, I get my blood screened free after every donation. In addition, the doctor informs me if anything goes wrong. Blood donation lifts our spirits high as we are being able to help our fellow human beings in distress. Regular blood donation reduces heart diseases, burn our calories and reduces even the chances of cancer like diseases. By donating blood we encourage our friends and relatives to do the same. Blood donation is a noble gesture and we should help spread the message of awareness of donating blood.
