Drug menace is destroying country's youth

November 07, 2018 00:00:00

As drug peddling, though illegal, is a very profitable and many powerful and wealthy people are involved with it. It is high time this problem was discussed openly in a bid to solve it.

Nearly 247 million people of the world are victims of drug abuse. And this number is increasing with every passing day. The abusers are mostly from the young segments of any population. If these young people are not protected and made aware about the dangers of drug abuse, any country including Bangladesh will have to pay the price for this failure.

If the government and civil society do not act now to stop drug abuse among the young men and women, then the country will be in danger of plunging in social unrest and lawlessness.

Also, awareness should be created among children from an early stage. Students at schools should be taught about the horrible effects of drug abuse so that they remain alert about this.

The government needs to take stern actions against the big drug traders. If such steps are taken, only then the drug business can be uprooted from this country.
