Education system over-reliant on memorizing
January 07, 2018 00:00:00
IT is undeniably true that at present our students are fully dependent on memorising their lessons. Our system of examination is mostly responsible for it and the parents/guardians have accepted it as a way of life. Our education system encourages our students to memorise only and blunts their free thinking ability. Things should not be allowed to continue like this and a total change of the system is imperative. We must realise that memorising like a parrot can not make us truly educated and enlightened. Our teachers are seen asking the students to memorise as they do not want to take the trouble of teaching some lessons twice when some students fail to understand the same at the first attempt. I hope that both the parents and teachers will realise that understanding of the lessons imparted in class rooms isimportant for more reasons than one and memorizing the same will not lead the students anywhere in later life.
