Ensuring safety of construction workers

In the last two decades, the private construction sector of Bangladesh has attained a high level of competence. The work quality has improved steadily. But a lot still needs to be done to ensure the safety of workers in the construction sector of the country.

Articles and television news clips about the death of workers and staff at construction sites of Bangladesh has become very common. These accidents occur due to the lack of safety measures at the construction sites. Many incidents and fatalities could have been avoided if minimal safety rules and regulations were met at the construction sites. The concerned department of the government should not let these incidents go stark free. Rather they should fine the construction companies who are violating the safety rules and regulations.

The government should take strict measures against these errant companies. Also, drastic measures should be taken against anyone who violates the national building code. If these steps are taken, hopefully the country will see a decrease in the number of deaths and injuries in the construction sector of the country.
