Exorbitant price of branded clothes

March 29, 2025 00:00:00

Eid is more than just a holiday; it is a vibrant celebration of joy, unity, and tradition that brings people together across the globe. One of the most cherished customs of this festive season is the excitement of wearing new clothes and sharing special moments with loved ones. However, in recent years, this joyous occasion has been overshadowed by a troubling trend: the exorbitant rise in clothing prices during Eid. What once brought delight now places a financial burden on countless families, particularly those from middle- and lower-income backgrounds.

While increased demand for new attire during this season naturally influences prices, the extent of these hikes often appears unjustifiable. Some high-profile brands exploit the festive fervour, leveraging their reputation and the season's allure to inflate prices beyond reasonable limits. As a result, many families struggle to afford new outfits, scrambling for alternatives as the celebration approaches.

This distressing situation imposes an unfair burden on families who save diligently throughout the year to celebrate Eid. As prices soar, many face difficult choices: settling for lower-quality costumes or, worse, forgoing the cherished tradition of buying new clothes altogether. Such circumstances cast a shadow over the festivities and undermine the true spirit of Eid-one rooted in joy, love, and togetherness.

It is imperative for the government to take decisive action. The authorities should monitor price fluctuations during this crucial season and implement strict regulations to curb excessive price hikes. Ensuring fair and accessible pricing during such an important religio-cultural celebration should be a priority to protect consumers from exploitative business practices. At the same time, consumers also have a role to play -- by staying informed about prices and making mindful purchasing decisions, they can resist undue market manipulation.

Ultimately, the essence of Eid lies in community, generosity, and shared celebration -- values that must be preserved. Let everyone come together to ensure that the joy of Eid remains accessible to all. By doing so, we can safeguard the spirit of this beautiful occasion and make it a truly inclusive celebration, irrespective of financial standing. Let us brighten the festivities and ensure that Eid remains a time of shared happiness for everyone.
