Expand Dhaka-Dohar-Nawabganj Road

January 16, 2026 00:00:00

I am writing to highlight the urgent need to expand Dhaka-Dohar-Nawabganj road into a four-lane highway.

The Dhaka-1 constituency, which includes both Dohar and Nawabganj Upazilas, is only 42 and 50 kilometres away respectively from the capital.

Every day, a large number of people-including service holders, businessmen, students and visitors-travel to Dhaka for various purposes. However, they face significant difficulties in commuting due to the narrowness of the existing road.

Despite the relatively short distance from the capital, the journey takes an excessive amount of time because of the road's narrow width.

In some areas, the road is so constricted that vehicles can barely pass.

Notably, at key intersections such as Kadamtoli, Rohitpur, and Nawabganj, it sometimes takes more than an hour to navigate through these areas. As a result, commuters often struggle to reach their destinations on time.

Moreover, reckless driving by local auto-rickshaws cause frequent accidents.

This not only creates traffic chaos but also poses a serious safety risk to both local residents and commuters.

Expanding this road into a four-lane highway would significantly improve transportation and connectivity, benefiting both the local population and those travelling between the capital and surrounding areas. It would reduce travel time, enhance road safety, and contribute to the overall development of the region.

Therefore, I strongly urge the authorities concerned to prioritise the completion of the four-lane road project and take swift action to address this issue for the well-being of the people.
