Expedite issuance of new NID card
October 20, 2024 00:00:00
A National Identity Card (NID) is a government-issued document that serves as proof of a citizen's identity. It includes essential personal details such as date of birth, address, gender, parents' names, and a photograph. The Election Commission is responsible for issuing the NID, which plays a crucial role in accessing various services, voting, banking, and other civic amenities.
Recently, the results of the 18th Private Teacher Registration written examination were published. Candidates shortlisted for the viva voce are required to present the original copy of their NID. As per Clause 12(a) of the 18th circular, failure to present the original NID will result in immediate cancellation of the candidate's application.
A significant concern arises for individuals born after January 1, 2002, as they have not yet received their physical NID card from the Union Parishad. Although those born before December 31, 2001, have been issued the document, the younger groups are facing a cumbersome situation. Despite having access to the online version of the NID, the original hard copy is being mandated for the viva exam.
In light of this, it is critical to draw the attention of the Election Commission to expedite the issuance of physical NID cards for those who have only the online version. Additionally, the NTRCA (Non-Government Teachers' Registration and Certification Authority) should consider the current circumstances and accept the online NID for the time being, ensuring that eligible candidates are not unfairly disqualified.
