Focus on outsourcing
August 19, 2020 00:00:00
The ongoing epidemic has made people more dependent on the internet, which helps us get medicare services. Although hundreds of people have lost their jobs, there are outsourced assignments for technically skilled people. Even after the pandemic, as the fourth industrial revolution is underway, internet would continue to dominate life and livelihoods.
Bangladesh is also becoming an important country in terms of digital outsourcing. About 800,000 freelancers are working from Bangladesh and they are earning an estimated amount of US$100 million a year. At present, there are 650,000 registered freelancers in the country.
However, the advantage Bangladesh has found in global outsourcing market is for low-cost labour. If the Bnagladeshi freelancers have better skills on an average and of course better education, they could have earned more and carried out more research-oriented assignments. Still, a key obstacle for all freelancers is quality of internet service. Also, the freelancers face difficulties in receiving money.
