Food safety: A fundamental right of people

PURE and unadulterated food is a precondition for a healthy society, but unfortunately food with purity and without adulteration has become a rarity in Bangladesh. Food adulteration has been so rampant that whenever we go to a shop or a market to buy some essentials, we have to think twice before buying the same. Adulteration of food with toxic chemicals harmful to health has reached an epidemic proportion in Bangladesh. The newspapers dubbed it as the 'silent killer'. It is very difficult to find a sector of food industry which is free of adulteration. From raw vegetable and fruits to milk and milk products to fish, meat and processed food-every food item is contaminated. If everything starting from drinking water to fruits and vegetables to fish and spices is contaminated, good health for citizens can not be guaranteed despite their best efforts.
