HSC results sans exams!
October 11, 2020 00:00:00
The passing of the higher secondary (HSC) level students without holding examinations doesn't require any hard work, though the decision was taken under special circumstances. Families of the HSC candidates do not look jubilant and auto-promotion has given birth to a few questions about future.
If someone got A+ in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, s/he might not secure the same result at HSC level. And if someone didn't get + at the SSC level, that doesn't mean s/he would not perform better in HSC exams. So, hard work of the students would not be rewarded and those who didn't study well would make similar score based only on past records. This might remain as a bad precedent.
At least, test results of the candidates with viva voce could have been evaluated or shorter version of the exams could have been held. The education ministry has the scope to apply any creative model in the light of the best practices elsewhere. The information technology option should have been used. In that case, students could have said they earned their results.
