AS a country, we are experiencing digital transformation. The new ICT Minister also emphasized the importance of internet. But one of the major concerns for the government is to ensure internet for urban people and school students. For many, internet is still just a media of social networking or dark sites.
The young generation of our country appears to be overwhelmed by the internet. They spend too much time on social networking which actually affects their studies and normal life and lead to depression and anxiety. Many of our youths have become addicts to porno sites and social media sites. Social media are also being used to form groups of drug addicts. Albert Einstein said years ago, "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots."
The internet is a blessing for students as there are many helpful educational sites on it like Wikipedia, pdf books, slides, which are extremely helpful for study and research. Internet is like a library on the web. Research says, adults, like teens, use the internet to learn new things and satisfy queries.
We find news sources on the internet. Cheap online portals and news pages in social media spreading half-truth or fake news wrapped in an attractive package are available. Internet is like an endless ocean where you do not always know what you are picking. It can either be a gem or just an ordinary stone.
Education of internet use in a proper way is required to get the most out of it. We shall get plenty of things from the internet which can be extremely helpful for us. The challenge is to utilise all the information avoiding its negative use. Providing education on proper utilisation of the internet has become as important as providing internet facilities at the moment.
