Irregularities in recruitment test

HUNDREDS of candidates staged demonstration in the city last Monday, protesting 'irregularities' in the recruitment tests of eight state-owned banks and financial institutions including Sonali, Janata and Rupali.
The candidates alleged that when they went for the tests on Friday, they found there were no seat plans in most of the centres and the number of seats was fewer than the number of candidates. They also alleged that the exam started late in many centres.
The Bankers' Selection Committee later announced that the recruitment tests would be held on January 20 for candidates of two centres as more than 5,000 candidates of the two centres -- Government Bangla College in Mirpur-1 and Hazrat Shah Ali Mohila College of the same area -- could not take the tests which were scheduled for 3:30pm on the same day, that is, Friday.
We believe that recruitment tests for the post of senior officers of the state-owned commercial banks should not be held in a manner like this. It is therefore imperative that an enquiry be held by the higher authorities to unearth the reasons leading to such an anarchic situation.
