Keeping Dhaka's air pollution-free

As the pandemic situation is far from over, everybody is required to wear mask to get some protection against the virus. But at the end of the day, it is not a long-term solution. Even so, we have to take all possible measures to ensure our physical wellbeing.

As the winter is just around the corner, dust particles have again started to pollute Dhaka's air. Dust from footpaths, construction sites and ongoing development projects as well as black smoke from brick kilns, vehicles and other sources have been polluting the capital's air in such a way that it is nowcausing breathing problem.

While returning home, this scribe recently saw a child trying to cover both its eyes and nose to protect them from dusty air. That was a heart-breaking scene. Dhaka isranked among the top cities in the world with the worst air quality. Millions wonder whether the city will ever get clean air.

So, the authorities concerned should be serious and take strict measures to keep Dhaka's air pollution-free including ordering old vehicles off the roads, shutting down all the brick kilns in and around the capital and sprinkling water on the streets every day.
