Letters to the Editor

Kudos to Sadat

November 16, 2020 00:00:00

Usually every morning, we wake up with bad news in the media. But there are some days that come with exceptions. A piece of story saying a Bangladesh teen has won the International Children's Peace Prize for his efforts to educate young people about cyber bullying made my day recently.

Congratulations to Sadat Rahman, 17, from Narail. You have made all Bangladeshis proud and honoured by receiving such a prestigious award. What is more delightful is that Sadat's winning the award has been covered prominently by the global media.

It is a matter of pride that Sadat was presented with the award by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai during a ceremony in the Hague. He was reportedly selected by the Netherlands-based Kids Rights foundation as the winner from 142 applicants of 42 countries. Popular climate activist Greta Thunberg won this award last year.

For Narail residents, Sadat is not unknown. Through 'Narail Volunteers' and mobile app 'Cyber Teens', he and his friends contributed much in the district to stop cyber bullying and violence against children. Around 2,000 teenagers in Narail have by now used the app. We wish him all the successes in his future ventures.

Jamilur Rahman

Lohagara, Narail
