Let us encourage honesty and respect honest people

HONESTY has become a rarity in our society and we only read about honest people in books and newspapers. A few days ago, I heard from a colleague of mine that a rickshaw puller returned her purse when she forgot about it as she was in a hurry getting down from his rickshaw. The purse contained substantial amount of money and an expensive mobile phone set. My colleague was naturally elated and she wanted to reward him, but the honest man refused and only said it was his duty. Persons like this should be honoured for their honesty and we should try and emulate their feats. With shoddy activities of corruption around us honesty is a rare thing in our country. We must not forget we would not be able to bring lasting prosperity with the mountains of corruption around us. It will not only make our future generation corrupt bring misfortune for them in the long run. We need more citizens like the rickshaw puller Ariful Islam so that we can stand up with our heads high and take in all our activities.
