Little rainwater downs Dhaka

It is sad that the authorities have not learnt any lesson from previous experiences. Dhaka city goes down under water every time it rains and whenever it rains. According to media reports, it took only 54mm of rains to flood many parts of the capital city on Monday. Rajarbagh, Motijheel, Arambagh, Asadgate, Mirpur, Jhigatola, Hazaribagh, Green Road and some parts of Old Dhaka went under ankle-deep water due to the rain.

This is not the first time Dhaka city has experienced deluge to this extent. City dwellers have to suffer from water-logging after every time it rains in Dhaka. But some areas get more affected than others. It is, no doubt, a collective failure by both Dhaka WASA and city corporations. And, they must come forward with a coordinated plan to rescue Dhaka dwellers from water-logging on a permanent basis.
