Misguided by TV series

'CID', a popular television series broadcast by a foreign channel, shows how intelligent officers investigate various patterns of murder. Alleged killer of two women -- Afroza Begum (58) and her domestic help Bithi (20) -- who were murdered in Dhaka city's Dhanmondi area on November 01, Surovi (single name) was reportedly inspired to learn tactics of killing by watching the CID series. Surovi, now in police custody, revealed this information during interrogation, according to media reports. She was said to have watched 'Crime Patrol', another such TV series.

Though based on facts, characters of CID are imaginary. Video images shown there sometimes include murder scene and blood-stained bodies. It is high time we became aware of what video footages contain and our relatives and friends watch on television channels. A regulatory move is also expected in this regard.
