Need for regular exercise

September 09, 2018 00:00:00

A recent study in The Lancet Global Health has revealed that nearly 1.4 billion people across the world are likely to face severe health complications like heart disease, type-2 diabetes and some cancers due to inactivity.

Based on data from 168 countries that was reviewed by more than 300 researchers from the World Health Organization (WHO), the study has found that the proportion of inactive people has increased from 32 per cent in 2001 to 37 per cent in 2016 in countries like USA, Germany and New Zealand. The same number is around 16 per cent in low income countries. People who had less than 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week were classified as inactive.

The required exercise for adults between the ages of 18 and 65 years is 150 minutes of moderate exercise. The study has reinforced the fact that regular exercise is extremely necessary in order to be healthy.
