'No helmet, no petrol' campaign

September 03, 2018 00:00:00

Rangpur Traffic Police (RTP) has initiated a unique campaign to raise mass awareness of traffic rules and road safety. With the slogan, 'No helmet, no patrol' as part of the campaign, the RTP has instructed fuelling stations not to provide petrol to motorcyclists without a helmet.

This is very innovative. If all fuelling stations follow the instructions then careless bikers will have no option but to wear helmets. This will ensure safety for them and for others on the roads. Also, this campaign will help young students and school-going children to learn about the necessity of following traffic rules and ensuring safety for themselves and others while on the road.

Hopefully the traffic police department elsewhere will learn a thing or two from RTP's initiative.

This kind of campaigns is necessary for not just bikers but other vehicles as well. Maybe something similar can be planned for pedestrians who jaywalk and do not use foot over-bridges, bus drivers who violate traffic rules and bus owners who run unfit vehicles on the road. Awareness and action based on it are necessary for everyone using the roads and highways.

Road accidents are still happening. As such, road safety has not improved despite the student movement demanding safer roads that ended last month.
