Obesity during covid-19
August 30, 2020 12:00:00
Many people are gaining weight staying home for months, especially in clumsy cities where residents have hardly any scope to move in the neighbourhood. A study based on global data gives bad news too -Obesity increases the risk of dying of Covid-19 by nearly 50 per cent. Apprehensions are also there that obesity may make vaccines against the disease less effective. A collaborative effort between the University of North Carolina (UNC), Saudi Health Council and World Bank, the study may increase pressure on governments to tackle obesity.
However, obesity is not a big problem in Bangladesh, although it is a rising problem and during the corona crisis, the number of the obese may have risen. Cities like Dhaka normally lack walking and jogging facilities while busy people have little scope to do physical exercise. We've to think about physical fitness and take some initiatives for ensuring a healthy Bangladesh.
