Letters to the Editor

Of youths and unemployment

February 12, 2022 00:00:00

The fresh graduates with high CGPA nowadays are struggling to find a suitable job let alone the ones with low CGPA. Even many meritorious students with MBA are finding it difficult to win the rat race of securing a decent job. As a result, a number of them are going abroad and the rest are trying to become entrepreneurs. However, not everyone is so fortunate, and so stay unemployed for years. The mental agony they go through for shouldering their families' responsibility is indescribable.

Even if one manages to secure a job, the starting salaries are so low that they cannot cope with the escalating living costs of Dhaka city. For a mere desk job, thousands of candidates now drop their CVs, making us think of our entire recruitment process and unemployment. We urge the concerned authorities to restructure young employees' salaries, and make long-term plans for the employment of our younger generations.
