One orthopaedic institution for each division

July 17, 2019 00:00:00

Since Bangladesh's liberation in 1971, the country has progressed considerably well, especially in the healthcare sector.

The government recently decided to set up and operate at least one government medical college and hospital in all 64 districts. It is a laudable decision.

Following the decision, medical colleges and hospitals are being opened in districts where there were no medical colleges earlier. But there has been little improvement in the area of orthopaedic medical treatment. Only the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Pangu hospital) in Dhaka and the Bangabandhu Seikh Mujibur Rahaman Medical University are imparting orthopaedic medical education. This is very insignificant as orthopaedic patients are very high in the country where road accidents and other hazards occur every hour.

Those patients, who cannot afford foreign orthopaedic treatment, suffer a lot in the country.

To solve this problem, I would like to urge the government to take a five-year project through which orthopaedic medical education can be introduced in each administrative division of the country.
