Pet training: An untapped market

September 25, 2024 00:00:00

The rising pet ownership in Bangladesh presents an outstanding opportunity for entrepreneurs to open pet training centres. Since this market is niche, the business can offer high-end services such as puppy training, obedience training, behaviour correction, and specialised training. They could gain a first-mover advantage and secure customers who are willing to pay premium prices for these exclusive services.

Professional pet trainers are scarcely available in Bangladesh, making it particularly challenging for dog owners to manage their pets in the cramped apartments of Dhaka. Professional training would be effective in helping the pets feel more at home, fostering a better relationship with their owners, and teaching them how to socialise with visitors. Even if pets are home-trained, the results might not be as good as professional training, where they are taught with patience and positive reinforcement methods like treats, rewards, toys, and appreciation.

While many recognise the need for pet training, this sector has yet to be developed by entrepreneurs in Bangladesh. The lack of pet training facilities discourages many people from adopting pets, while others abandon them due to their inability to manage them. Pet training centres could reduce the number of stray animals and provide them with loving homes where they are well fed and groomed. Additionally, pets could be trained to become companion providing emotional support with therapeutic benefits. This would further augment the business.

Entrepreneurs who are passionate about animals could find the experience both invigorating and rewarding. Moreover, this sector could create job opportunities for animal lovers. The business could also engage in community work, such as rescuing stray animals and raising awareness about animal welfare, thereby contributing to society while building a positive brand image. Pet training centres could, therefore, add significant value to an evolving society by showing people how to get along with animals.
