Price hike hurts bachelor students

November 06, 2021 00:00:00

The recent price hike of essentials has dealt a double blow to the low- and the middle-income groups of people. The sufferings, caused by the unusual price spiral, are even more for the middle-class people, who cannot share with others that they have little or no food at home. Bachelor students, particularly those who live outside of their families for the purpose of education are also bearing the brunt of this price hike.

Most of these youths rely on tuition. Their earnings are decreasing due to the Covid-19 crisis. But their expenses of living in big cities are increasing day by day for the soaring prices of essentials like rice, lentils, edible oil, fish, chicken and vegetables.

Therefore, we urge the authorities concerned to take immediate initiatives for curbing prices of daily commodities to a tolerable level. Also, the government should strictly monitor the market so that no unscrupulous businessmen can hike prices on the pretext of artificial crisis.
