Promoting reading habit -

There is no reason why publication industry would not flourish in Bangladesh. Historically, book lovers read novels, short stories, essays and some other texts in their native language. There are readers who want to taste foreign literature, too, so translated versions of such bookshave market demand. There is a third group of readers, whowants to read books in foreign language, mostly English.

However, we've not seen campaigns for creating new readership. First, publishers have responsibility to encourage youths to read books in their own interest. Secondly, and more importantly, steps need to be taken to improvethequality of education, which is essential for creating readers and the growth of the publication industry.
