LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

PSC's commendable initiative

September 14, 2025 00:00:00

It has come to our attention that a seminar convened by the Public Service Commission (PSC) unveiled a reformed evaluation system for answer sheets, transitioning from the traditional methodology to an innovative circular framework.

In this new paradigm, examiners, totalizers (responsible for aggregating scores), scrutinizers, and head examiners will collaboratively engage in the evaluation process, all under the supervision and guidance of esteemed Members at the Commission's headquarters.

The Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination serves as the gateway for individuals aspiring to contribute to national service. The Honorable Chairman of the Commission emphasized the necessity for the examination process and recruitment procedure to be concluded within a one-year timeframe. We wholeheartedly endorse these two bold reforms, which promise to enhance transparency, accountability, and time management.

However, implementing this process requires a substantial number of skilled personnel simultaneously, presenting a formidable challenge for many academicians engaged in educational institutions. Should the Commission deem it appropriate, if it may consider involving recently retired academics as examiners and other retired government officials as totalizers and scrutinizers, thereby addressing the demand for efficient manpower without overburdening current officials.

The Commission also conducts numerous recruitment processes beyond the BCS exams, which require a vast workforce.

The Commission's efforts to uphold institutional prestige through the reform of various regulatory frameworks aim to identify the most qualified talents capable of leading the nation's bureaucratic system with integrity and impartiality. We also acknowledge the administrative and financial autonomy of the Commission to pursue these reformed initiatives, as articulated by the learned Chairman.
