Rebuilding investor confidence

May 27, 2025 00:00:00

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) are critical pillars of Bangladesh's financial system. Yet, both markets have increasingly become unstable, causing significant financial losses for ordinary investors. This erosion of investor confidence stems from a range of persistent issues, including a lack of transparency, insider trading, weak regulatory enforcement, and poor corporate governance.

These markets, ideally meant to facilitate economic and investment opportunities, are now widely viewed as risky and unreliable. Many idealistic and small-scale investors fall prey to market manipulation and misinformation, leaving them financially and emotionally devastated.

It is imperative that we implement urgent reforms to restore faith in our capital markets. Regulatory bodies must take proactive steps-ensuring stricter supervision, penalising market manipulators, and enforcing timely and accurate disclosures from listed companies.

Furthermore, public awareness campaigns should be launched nationwide to educate potential investors. Only through informed participation can people protect themselves from loss and contribute to a more stable investment environment.

Rebuilding integrity and transparency within the DSE and CSE is not just about protecting individual investors-it is about laying the foundation for a robust, sustainable financial system that supports national economic growth.
