Rising cost of education
April 09, 2026 00:00:00
Through your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw attention to a growing concern in Bangladesh: the rapidly rising cost of education and the heavy financial burden it places on families.
Over the past few years, tuition fees, exam fees, transport costs, and even the price of books have increased significantly in both schools and universities, especially in private ones. Middle-class families, in particular, are struggling to keep up with these expenses. Many parents are being forced to take loans or delay essential household spending in order to pay for their children's education. In some cases, students face interruptions in their studies because their families cannot afford the rising fees.
Education is a fundamental right and a long-term investment for the development of our country. Yet the current situation is making quality education very difficult for the people. If this trend continues, it may widen social inequality, as many talented students will be unable to pursue higher studies simply due to financial constraints.
It is therefore hoped that the authorities concerned will review the current fee structure, ensure proper regulation of private institutions, and introduce more scholarships, subsidies, and student-friendly loan facilities. Making education affordable is essential for building a skilled and prosperous Bangladesh.
