River dredging necessary for plying of water vessels

Most of the goods either from Chattogram or Mongla port to Dhaka are still transported through the waterways. Difficulties arise during the winter season when the rivers dry up making navigability tough. Vessels often get stuck on many sleeping islands under the river surface.

What is worrying is that many rivers of Bangladesh have lost navigability. Others have died due to human interventions. Many rivers have lost water-holding capacity. Against this backdrop the initiative for dredging the rivers has come as a relief. I would like to urge the authority concerned to ensure proper dredging of the rivers to facilitate easy movement of water vessels.
