Road accidents on the rise

It is alarming how the death toll from road accidents have increased over the past week. On January 28, two children, Fatima Afrin (12), a sixth grader, and Afsar Hossain (10), a fourth grader, were killed. The two were returning from school with their father on his motorcycle when a speeding truck rammed into it from behind. The truck dragged the bodies of the two children for a few metres. They were killed on the spot. Fatima and Afsar's father was left injured.

Besides, eight more people died across the country in road accidents on the day.

I would like to urge the authorities to take steps that would ensure road safety and that traffic rules and regulations will be strictly observed by all drivers, bikers, commuters and pedestrians of the country.
