Save street children from drug

January 11, 2025 00:00:00

When walking through the streets of the city, it is common to see street children inhaling a yellow liquid contained in polythene bags. This substance, known as "dandy", is a type of intoxicant. It primarily consists of an adhesive called Dendrite Adhesive, which is commonly used as glue for shoes and tyres.

Street children obtain this substance at very low prices from garage shops and use it as a drug, causing severe harm to their bodies.

When the scent of Dendrite Adhesive enters the body, it destroys the cells in the affected areas. This leads to abnormal brain function due to the destruction of brain cells. Additionally, it causes sores inside the nose and other severe health complications. Over time, the body begins to show signs of serious damage and malignancy.

Every child is born with the right to a healthy and fulfilling life. However, when a child becomes involved in drug addiction at a tender age, it poses a grave danger not only to their well-being but also to society at large.

Such children often progress to more dangerous drugs, such as yaba or cannabis, making substance abuse a routine part of their lives. When they are unable to afford these drugs, they may resort to criminal activities like mugging and robbery to fund their addiction.

Street children are an integral part of our society and should not be neglected. It is imperative for the authorities to identify and hold accountable those who supply these harmful substances to children. Sale of substances to children should be banned.

In addition to government efforts, private initiatives must also play a role in protecting street children from the scourge of drug addiction. Joint action between the government and private organisations can not only help rehabilitate street children but also transform them into valuable human resources for the nation.

Together, we can steer street children away from the path of addiction towards a brighter future.
