Severe load-shedding in Thakurgaon
April 23, 2026 00:00:00
Thakurgaon Sadar is currently experiencing a severe load shedding crisis at a critical time when students are sitting for their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations. Despite official assurances of uninterrupted electricity supply during the exam period, frequent power outages continue to disrupt both daily life and students' academic preparation.
Residents report that electricity cuts last for two to three hours at a stretch and occur multiple times throughout the day and night. The situation becomes particularly difficult during late-night study hours and early morning revision sessions, which are crucial for examinees preparing for their final examinations.
Many students depend heavily on electricity for reading under proper lighting, charging electronic devices, and accessing online educational resources. In the absence of power, they are forced to rely on kerosene lamps or candles, which not only strain eyesight but also reduce concentration and study efficiency.
Parents have expressed serious concern over the situation. With SSC examinations underway, the uncertainty of electricity supply is adding unnecessary stress to both students and families. In many cases, students are unable to study their lessons properly the night before exams due to prolonged outages.
The problem also extends to examination centres, where fans, lighting, and other basic facilities are affected during hot and humid conditions. Although some centres have backup generators, while many are either insufficient or non-functional.
