Shocking loss of life in lightning strikes

As many as 24 people across the country were killed by thunder and lightning on a single day according to media reports. It sounds incredible and I am sure many lives could have been saved had the people known about the things to be done when lightning and thunder strike. Lack of awareness is a prime cause along with ignorance of the people in general. Number of casualties can be brought down drastically with massive awareness campaigns. Both electronic and print media can play a significant role in this respect. Media should publish and air the awareness raising programmes regularly and educate the ignorant people to guard against such calamities.
