Shortage of quality TV drama

October 08, 2020 00:00:00

In the 2000s when Bangla drama started losing popularity, people switched to foreign channels especially to the so-called Hindi daily soap operas. Since then, watching the Hindi soaps have become a common practice for Indians and Bangladeshi people alike.

It is already known that these serials are women-centric where women dominate and show glamour. The daily soaps are also full of actions motivated by jealousy and conspiracies. Such scenes can never empower the women.

These serials are affecting today's Bangladesh society as many people have been addicted to these soaps, which captured the Bangladesh market taking advantage of the shortage of god playwrights like Humayun Ahmed. In fact, Indian viewers earlier watched Bangladeshi television serials. That means Bangladeshi writers can still offer quality drama serials.
