Social movement against corruption

July 11, 2018 00:00:00

A clear line between want and need needs to be drawn. One can fulfil one's needs but one cannot fulfil wants no matter how much wealth is acquired by the individual. In order to be content in life, people need to limit their wants. The dictionary defines a necessity as "an indispensable thing" that everyone needs, such as food, water, shelter, medical facility, education and clothing. But ensuring necessity does not usually lead to greed, which is the precursor to undesirable want for wealth.

Usually, greed leads to corruption. As the issue has become a norm in Bangladesh, corrupt people do not even feel guilty while asking for bribes and extra money. At the time, even the Anti-Corruption Commission seems to have become weak at exercising their power against corruption in society. Rampant corruption and seeming impunity of the corrupt is giving the wrong message to our younger generations. At one point in time, corrupt people were shunned like the plague in society. Because of corruption, Bangladesh cannot seem to usher in more foreign investment. It is high time that we created a social campaign against corruption and thrive towards eradicating it from our society.
