Sreemangal's tranquility is lost-

March 28, 2025 00:00:00

Once known as a serene and picturesque tourist city, Sreemangal, the "Tea Capital" of Bangladesh, is now plagued by severe traffic congestion and mismanagement. Renowned for its lush green tea gardens, the breathtaking beauty of Lawachara National Park, and the famous seven-layer tea, this city has turned into a nightmare of gridlock and chaos.

The once-tranquil streets of Sreemangal are now overrun with uncontrolled vehicle movement, unplanned market expansion, illegal parking, and poor management, transforming it into a city of disorder. Long lines of vehicles, street vendors occupying public spaces, and unplanned structures have made movement a daunting challenge, especially on major roads and at entry points to tourist attractions. The Moulvibazar-Sreemangal Highway, Bhanugach Road, Habiganj Road, and College Road are now hotspots of daily traffic congestion.

Despite the increasing number of tourists, there is no modern planning for road and transport management. The lack of necessary traffic signals, parking spaces, and adequate manpower has worsened the disorder. With sidewalks occupied, pedestrians are forced to walk on the roads, increasing the risk of accidents.

Tourists once found peace and relaxation in Sreemangal, but the current chaos and tailbacks are driving many away, posing a severe threat to the tourism industry. Under such circumstances, controlling the traffic congestion in Sreemangal is crucial. Therefore, I urge the Sreemangal Municipality, the Roads and Highways Department, and the authorities concerned to take immediate action for resolving this issue.
