State of women

ALTHOUGH women are currently participating in almost all arenas, odds impeding their progress are yet to be removed. We observed the International Women's Day with a renewed pledge to uphold women's rights against social and economic discrimination. Sadly girls were subjected to stalking and sexual harassment on the same day at different points of Dhaka city.

Most women of our country are still confined within the four walls of their households. Child marriages are still hindering women's progress. Dropout rate of school going girls is still alarming. Traditional thinking of poor parents is holding back girls from being educated and married at the right age. On the other hand, violence against women continues unabated around the country. To improve the overall state of women, it is imperative that they should be extended moral and social support to get over the social barriers and utilize their innate qualities for their rightful position in society. Only then observance of the day will prove meaningful.
