Stop exploitation of Rohingya girls

April 11, 2018 00:00:00

BANGLADESH earned wide appreciation from across the world for its benevolence towards Rohingya Muslims who fled their homes in Myanmar in the face of extreme persecution by the country's authorities. These Rohingyas were victims of brutal ethnic cleansing. Of late the news that hit headlines of world press is about Rohingya girls and women being sold to sex traders at home and abroad. Sadly the government and security forces of our country have not taken effective steps to stop such criminal activities of sex traders.

The BBC recently reported how young Rohingya girls are being traded for sexual abuse. The government should come down hard on those criminals who are involved in syndicates perpetrating an organised crime of trafficking innocent and helpless Rohingya girls and women for prostitution. Let the reputation earned by the country by sheltering and looking after the Rohingya refugees not be marred by illegal activities of a section of criminals.
