Struggle for American unity
November 09, 2020 00:00:00
Disgrace is one of the words most used by US President Donald Trump who has just lost reelection to Joe Biden. However, despite close race and delay in announcing results, there is no disgrace in America's electoral process other than Trump's refusal to accept defeat. And the US system and people have brought remedy, fighting it hard. The remarkable part of the last few days' American story is that democratic institutions function even in times of crisis.
Hopefully, the Biden presidency would bring some relief to the lives of millions of immigrants who felt offended and were often scared by Trump's policies.
In fact, the election has proved that Trump is not America as more people opposed him. The ones who voted for him have been angered by his rhetoric. The Americans' next struggle would be to get rid of 'Trump's America'. It is expected that Joe Biden would try to pacify hostile minds. As citizens of the world today, we only hope that his administration would not pursue policy that encourages war and conflicting relations.
